Landscape officers test screening at two horizons, the day-one view and the designed maturity view. The government published its DC01UK data centre planning study on 23 January 2025. The Woodlands Park data centre appeal, reference 3347353, was granted on 9 July 2025. The Abbots Langley data centre application was recovered for Secretary of State decision in May 2025. Since 8 January 2026, data centre schemes in England can be directed into the nationally significant infrastructure project regime under section 35 of the Planning Act 2008, alongside the conventional local planning authority route. The change sits within the consenting reforms carried through the Planning and Infrastructure Act context as at July 2026. Route choice affects who decides the application and which document set the planning stills must serve.
